Mr President...
Today, Barack Hussein Obama, at 47 years of age, became the 44th President of the United States of America as he took the oath of office at the US Capitol. Obama, who becomes the first black president in US history, proclaimed America had chosen "hope over fear" and must unite in a "new era of responsibility" to triumph over its multiple crises.

Amen to that! I have always had a very soft spot for Americans because when I was a small child it was WW2 time and we in Australia were very much aware of the protection back up that the USA offered we Aussies. I remember American servicemen on the local trains engaging in very friendly talk with my parents and giving my sister and I bars of chewing gum that they obviously had been issued with! The USA are our good friends.
